Triangle Velo represents the finest in top
level amateur sporting in North
Carolina.
While these riders keep their athleticism mostly hidden beneath street
clothes Monday through Friday, they spend their weekends competing successfully
in “pro-am” races throughout the Southeast.
The team is composed of Triangle area residents who are professionals in
their chosen careers but also have a passion for serious bicycle
racing.
Look for these riders where they
work and ride, and feel free to strike up a conversation!
Keith Gerarden, Age 28, Chapel Hill, NC. USCF
Road Category 2/Cyclocross 2
Keith began road racing in 2007 and succeeded in
a feat extremely rare in the world of bike racing: winning his way from
beginner to elite-level Category 2 within one racing season. He is also a full-time IT professional at
UNC’s School of Medicine. Keith’s racing style is to animate races by
initiating breakaways and attacking whenever possible. This season, Keith looks forward to seeing
for the first time how his aggressive riding style matches up against professional
competition! He also races in cyclocross
events during the fall and winter.
Solomon Kobes, Age 33, Chapel Hill, NC. USCF
Road Category 2
Solomon has raced road bikes since he was a
teenager, achieving category 2 status while attending college in Atlanta, GA. He is a good climber with the stamina to
place consistently in road races and criteriums. He returns to racing this season after a
two-year hiatus during which he opened a private clinical social work practice,
specializing in child and adolescent psychotherapy. Solomon looks forward to dragging his wife
and three year old son to races all over the Southeast.
Mitchell Luck, Age 35, Chapel Hill, NC. USCF
Road Category 2
Mitchell’s introduction to endurance sports began
after he graduated from Virginia
State University. After finding national level success in
triathlons, he began focusing exclusively on cycling in 2002, and moved up
quickly through the amateur ranks. Since
2005, he has competed in over 30 pro races annually, usually placing in the top
twenty. He is an all-around powerhouse
in bike racing. Mitchell is married and
the father of two young sons. He works
as a fitness professional at UNC, volunteers in the local schools, and has
taught bicycle safety classes for children.
Parker McConville, Age 32, Sanford, NC. USCF
Road Category 2
Parker is a Family Physician in Sanford, where he lives with his wife and 2
year-old daughter. He has been involved
in competitive sports since the age of nine and was a state champion swimmer,
Academic All-State basketball player, and conference champion cross country
runner in high school. Parker started
cycling competitively in 2005 and quickly found success, including the title
of overall winner at the 2007 ACE Motor Speedway cycling series.
Jon Speer, Age 32, Chapel Hill, NC. USCF
Road Category 2
Jon picked up the 2008 season where he left off
in 2007: unleashing his impressive accelerating power to close gaps, sprint,
and win lots of Category 3 races. He
earned his Cat 2 upgrade in February and immediately joined Triangle Velo. Jon’s favorite job was as a mathematics
teacher and tutor; he now returns to the tutoring field after pursuing other interests. He is also a gifted
musician and song writer.
Kris Stein, Age 33, Raleigh, NC. USCF
Road Category 2
Kris works hard to balance his passion for
cycling with his profession as a product marketing manager with Lenovo and with enjoying time with his friends, family, and fiancée. Kris loves to ride but spends more time than
he would like sweating on his indoor trainer.
A twenty-year veteran of bike racing, he has the physical and mental
maturity to somehow make his schedule work!
Daryl Tulimieri, Age 37, Raleigh, NC. USCF
Road Category 2
Daryl is currently completing his MBA at the UNC and looks forward to beginning
consulting work for McKinsey and Company this spring. He is a talented and
highly competitive athlete. Road racing
since 1999, Daryl enjoys the excitement of criteriums and is able to use a
strong training ethic to his advantage in long road races.
